Patrick Alès, the pioneer

of botanical hair science.

The inventor of blow-drying

In the 1960s, the world of hairdressing vibrated to the rhythm of sophisticated blow-drys and sculpted volumes. In the heart of this effervescent Paris, Patrick Alès has styled the world's biggest celebrities (Jackie Kennedy, Catherine Deneuve...).

While he was making a name for himself with scissors, he developed a revolutionary technique: blow-drying. More than just a styling gesture, this innovation transforms the hairstyle in the long term by providing volume, suppleness and movement thanks to the combined work of the brush and the drying.

"Blow-drying frees the natural movement of the hair and reinvents the art of hairdressing."

Hair care with plants

Convinced that nature has virtues for the health and beauty of the hair, Patrick Alès is thinking about relieving the hands of his employees, damaged by certain aggressive products. He then concocted his first natural hair care with a motto that would never leave him: "primum non nocere" (first do no harm).

Patrick Alès inventshair phytotherapy (from the Greek phyto = plants / thera = care / crank = hair):a visionary approach born of observation and experimentation, which combines science and botany to reveal the natural beauty of the hair.

"A motto that will never leave him: "primum non nocere" (first do no harm)."

Phyto 7, the first day cream for hair

At a time when the cosmetics industry favoured synthetic chemistry, Phyto Paris was a pioneer.

In 1968, Phyto 7 was born, the first hair day cream formulated from 7 plant extracts. A revolutionary innovation that marks a break with the established codes and introduces a new skincare gesture: a day cream to nourish the hair on a daily basis, as we take care of our skin.

"As early as the 70s, Phyto Paris dared to bet on plant power, where the industry favoured synthetic chemistry."

The creation of the Laboratories

In order to scientifically demonstrate the effectiveness of plants, Patrick Alès took a new step by creating his Laboratories.

Botanical research, scientific expertise and professional standards came together to develop formulas highly concentrated in plant active ingredients, marking the birth of innovative and responsible hair cosmetics.

"Botanical science at the service of hair health and beauty."

Phytoplage, sun protection for hair
